Nunavut

As Canada's newest territory, Nunavut has the smallest population (26,745 persons) of any province or territory but is one of the fastest growing provinces and territories with a 1996-2001 population growth rate of 8.1%.

Nunavut also lays claim to the largest land mass of any province or territory (1 925 460 sq km), over 20% of the total land mass of Canada. That's a population density of about .01 persons per square kilometre or about 1 person for every 72 square kilometres. Compare that to the national population density of 3.3 persons per square kilometre or 237 persons for every 72 square kilometres.
